An Introduction to Seedboxes

According to Whirlpool, a Seedbox is a dedicated server with a public IP address that allows you to download and seed your own files. Having access to a Seedbox will make it possible to download BitTorrent files to your personal computer – assuming you have internet access.

Generally speaking, Seedboxes have a fast connection and can be rented on a monthly (or annual) basis. Because of the fast connection, access to Seedboxes can be expensive.

The cheapest options start around $40 per month, while the most expensive options offer terabytes of space and cost more than some of us pay for rent.

You might need a Seedbox if you share a large amount of files on a regular basis. Some popular providers include Rapidseedbox, Feral Hosting, and Seedhost.EU.

You’ll want to note the difference between a Seedbox and a VPN. A Seedbox operates independently from your internet connection – though it can also function as a VPN. A VPN, however, relies on the bandwidth of your internet.

Thus, a Seedbox is safer because it is based in a designated location. In the case of Rapidseedbox, those locations are in France and the Netherlands.

In this article, I’m going to share an in-depth analysis of Rapidseedbox – with an honest review and additional information to boot.

RapidSeedbox Review

Rapidseedbox is a self-proclaimed “high performance Seedbox VPS for all your needs.” It offers unlimited bandwidth, a dedicated IP address, a remote desktop feature, shell access, and plenty of RAM.

On its website, RapidSeedbox claims to include unlimited bandwidth and pre-installed applications. It also boasts weekly, monthly, or annual payment plans – unlike most other Seedbox providers, who rarely offer weekly payment options.

More than ten thousand men and women have used Rapidseedbox, which has a fourteen day money-back guarantee. The software is compatible with Microsoft Windows, SolusVM, CentOS, and Ubuntu.

According to its official FAQ page, Rapidseedbox is constantly updating technology and installing new software by request. Pre-installed applications include XFCE Desktop, OpenVPN, Resilio Sync (BTSync), Firefox, HandBrake, FileZilla, Dropbox, and more.

Rapidseedbox supports three BitTorrent clients, including Deluge, rTorrent, and uTorrent. Once you’ve made your first payment, you can have Rapidseedbox ready to function in two minutes.

When you use Rapidseedbox, you’ll be completely anonymous. You may also be sharing your server with up to eleven other people – though this number could be significantly less, depending on your purchased plan.

Pros of Rapidseedbox

Let’s start with some of the most common positive feedback Rapidseedbox receives:

  • The prices offer great control. Not only can you choose from weekly, monthly, or annual options – but there are five different packages to explore. This means you can choose a Seedbox that is specifically tailored to your needs.
  • Service support really seems to care. Rarely do customers complain because they’ve faced serious account problems. Problems are fixed quickly and efficiently.
  • The Seedbox itself has great control options – unlike many other Seedbox providers.
  • Rapidseedbox offers unlimited traffic, while other Seedbox providers use maximum upload traffic rules.

Cons of RapidSeedbox

Now, let’s touch on some of the not-so-great opinions customers have shared:

  • The remote access is touchy at best. You can’t really count on it.
  • A large number of Rapidseedbox boxes are shared. This means you don’t get a minimum guaranteed bandwidth and upload speeds can vary regularly.
  • According to an Easy Counter review, Rapidseedbox has a low Google page ranking and bad results. In addition, they found it to be “poorly socialized” when it comes to social networking. Their overall rating was only .5 out of 5 stars.
  • Rapidseedbox can be a bit pricier than the competition, even with weekly payment options.

What’s the Pricing?

Let’s talk money.

Rapidseedbox offers Fast, Quick, Stream, Rapid, and Furious packages at three different levels – weekly, monthly, and annual.

The cheapest plan (at $5) is the weekly Fast package. This option includes 2 CPU cores, 2 GB of RAM, and 500 GB of storage. The most expensive plan (at $624) is the annual Furious package. This option includes 4 CPU cores, 11 GB of RAM, and 2.8 TB of storage.

You’ll find a variety of affordable options in between. However, you should keep in mind that each provider has a limited number of available Seedboxes. The least expensive boxes go quickly – so you’ll need to move fast.

You should also consider the upcharge of paying gradually. For example, an annual Fast package is $168. A monthly Fast package is $17 per month or $204 per year. Finally, a weekly Fast package is $5 per week or $260 per year.

This means you could save nearly $100 by knowing you want an annual membership from the beginning.

What Are My Alternative Options?

How does Rapidseedbox compare to other providers? Let’s take a look at Feral Hosting and Seedhost.EU.

Seedhost.EU offers discounts for any upfront payment. In addition, users can change their billing cycles anytime. The provider also specializes in movement between providers, installable add-ons (much like Rapidseedbox), and fast activation.

Overall, Seedhost.EU is more reputable than Rapidseedbox. It has a more established “social” background and a more organized system. While Rapidseedbox is still working out the kinks, Seedhost.EU has everything figured out.

Still, the website is far from perfect. Several reviews and ratings on Trust Pilot make that much clear.

Feral Hosting is a brilliant example of the dangers of choosing the wrong provider. If you visit the official website, you’ll find the company is in the process of being rebuilt. On November 16, 2016, the front end of the provider was shut down by a legal department.

There was no warning for users. Instead, one day, they simply lost access to their Seedbox providers. It is currently unclear how the company will proceed – and whether or not it will be held accountable for the content of its users.

We also looked at a number of other seedbox services on this blog, and there are some more seedbox reviews here to read.

What’s My Conclusion?

Overall, Rapidseedbox seems to be a legitimate website that genuinely cares about providing a safe and anonymous experience for those working with BitTorrent files. However, there are some red flags that should be considered before making a final decision.
